Snowing

Here we are Louisville, Ky at the Louisville South KOA. It is 33 & we are watching snow flurries. We had a nice trip here till we hit Brinkley, Arkansas. We stopped at a Hotel who had RV spots behind them. We're told to take any spot...well....we pulled into #2. Howard decided to back up as we weren't straight so we literally slid into a mud hole..about 12 inches deep. Stuck we were, not going anywhere. Went to talk to the manager who informed us they had just worked on the sewer line & the hole wasn't filled properly..well why did he tell us to take any spot. So we had to call a wrecker to pull us out. Prayerfully it turned out ok. But a bit scary since the 5th wheel was leaning hooked to the truck. No damage done...Thank you Lord. Talking about trusting! Here is a pic or two. The mud was all the way to the axels. The manager never came out to see how we faired..so say the least we won't be staying there again. Till next time...keep those tires rolling

New Texans

We are now Texans. Hope to put up some pics soon. We had some warranty work done on our rig & now we are in Livingston, TX...headquarters of Escapees. An organization that caters to full-timers, part-timers etc. It is a wonderful organization. People here have been so friendly. There is so much to do if you choose. We've been busy running around getting business taken care of. We've even met folks from Auburn & Sacramento. What a small world we have. We had a rain storm Monday night, it even thundered & lightened. A wonderful show. Today has been very nice/sunny. Until next time...keep those tires rolling!

Have already changed our address to Texas & informed our magazines. Not many left. Praying for great weather as we leave, our first stop will be in Mojave. A Passport park there..we joined them last month. Great to get a 1/2 off discount. We put some of our summer stuff away & unpacked winter things. Didn't know we had so much. We'll see how much we use this winter. Until next time..keep those tires rolling!

River Trip

We are finishing up our trip to the Colorado River. We met some friends down there. It was a fun trip, celebrating my birthday! Never a dull moment on this trip. First while we were out geocaching, our water hose burst. A neighbor came over to turn it off..we created a wonder river! O no!! Then we sprung a small hole leak in our sewer hose. So H had to get an extender & cut the hole out. Then when we left & stopped @ a rest stop the potty lid had came loose. So H had to put the little washer back on. C our friend got us back into geocaching again..we did about 11 while @ the river. It was really fun to find little goodies..hoping to put some pics in..so until next time...keep those tires rolling

Almost retriement time

Time has flown by fast. We have really downsized our stuff. I will be quitting my job on the 10th. Be strange not working after 20+ years. Can't wait to catch up on things. I have knitting & sewing projects that are waiting in the wings. Next Sat we take off for a little R'n R @ Havasu Landing Resort in So Cal. It will be our first time pulling the 5th wheel loaded. Had to get a exhaust brake on the truck due to H souping up the truck. A guy thing. Then I will have time to mess with the pics from trips etc. H is working till Dec 3 then we head to Ky for Christmas. Haven't been home for the Holidays for about 19 yrs. It is about time. Be exciting having the Holidays with family. Until next time keep those tires rolling!

Slow go

It has been a slow time. We have been working overtime at our jobs. Need to go through some boxes before we go to Havasu Landing in Sept for a week. Howard has decided to work a few more months. Leaving him to make his decision. Had to be in His timing. I heard from a friend I need to put up some pics..well guess that is my next learning curve. Work has been fine, will give my notice soon. I miss knitting with my friends...have had dr app etc. Dont' know if we will go to Alaska next year. Might go up to New England for the summer. Have relatives up there & cousins we haven't seen for a while. Be nice to visit with them. Might get a summer volunteer job while we are there. Well that's it for now...Keep those tires rolling!!

Coming home

Well here we are in Bakersfield...on our way home with our new 5th wheel..it has been very hot. Yesterday we stayed in Needles where it hit 116..so we spent the time in the pool at the casino. Getting up at 6 am to beat the heat is no fun, but we do make it to our next destination early to stop to enjoy the day. We had to have just a few things fixed our our new home. Had to get a new brake controller as ours didn't like the trailer..also bought a new tail-gate from Brian. It didn't work on his truck. A bargin for us. I love my new kitchen. Today when we stopped one of the chairs had hit the kitchen island so will have to fixed the scratches...just 2..whew !! Don't want to mess up our new home!! Tomorrow we get home to Auburn where we will stay in a spot at a mobile home park. Then back to work. We also have a week to clean out our apt. Then we'll have to go through stuff again. So till next time...keep those tires rolling!

Horses & White Castles!

What do they have in common? Kentucky & the Derby..we've just returned. The first place we stop is White Castle. If you've never had one of these sliders..they are DEEEElicious...being raised on them I might be bias. They are about the size of your palm. Betcha can't eat just one. If you ever pass through the east check 'em out. This is the time for the Ky Derby, first weekend in May. This year I didn't do very well. My wonderful hubby did win a few races & also a Derby Jackpot with Super Saver. We need a triple crown winner, hope he comes through this year. Preakness is this weekend so will know Saturday. The track for Derby was really muddy. We had a family reunion which we eat, eat, fellowship & eat some more...pictures to follow soon. Sunday we get-together eat & play poker...all in the family. Until next time....keep those tires rolling!

Derby time

This time of year the flowers are blooming, making allergies fun..not...also it is almost Derby time in Kentucky. The running for the Roses. This year we are going home to see who wins this year. Very seldom does the favorite win. I always bet on a long shot horse..they have came in. Making my winnings prosperous.!! We will also travel to W.Va to visit H's family. He grew up on a farm there. Chickens, pigs, cow, gardens the whole gamit. My grandparents lived on a farm also, as a kid we had much fun there. My Aunt/Uncle lived with them also. The house dates back to the 1850's... I always imagined it as a wonderful Bed/Breakfast. It has this crickety bridge I am afraid to drive over. My Grandfather drove over it & I would always shut my eyes, just knowing we would end up in the creek. It wasn't that deep, maybe just a foot. Being little it seemed like 3 ft. All the news for now...except June 1st we go to New Mexico to get our 5th wheel..until next time..keep those tires rolling!

Recliners are in

Today Howard called RV sales in New Mexico & our recliners have arrived..whoo hooo..the sad part is we still can't get our trailer till June 1st. That's ok..gives us more time to pair down some more. We will leave for Kentucky/W.VA in a few weeks to visit family. We are just counting down the months till we get to full-time. Sept 10th is our target date. Until next time..keep those tires rolling!

April's here

Here we are the first weekend of April & Easter is tomorrow. It has been a very stormy week here in No. California. I've just finished knitting a shawl. Started a pair of socks..hopefully I can put up a pic of my shawl. I need to block it out..but living in the apt I don't have much space. Will look for some blocking boards. We received our tags for our 5th wheel today. They also included a year's memebership for the NM Excel club..it would be nice to go to the fall campout. The time to pick it up will be here soon. I keep counting the days. But first our trip back to Ky to visit our family. Also been watching the NCAA game..was hoping for W.VA to win..but sadly they lost..always hope for next year..that's about it for this week. Until next time...keep those tires rolling.

Traveling full-time

We decided to go full-timing about 5 years ago. Always have loved camping & vacationing. We dreaded coming home & going back to work. Started downsizing about 3 yrs ago. It is amazing how much STUFF we have. More than we need. Last June we put our house on the market, within 43 days it was sold. The lady also purchased most of our furniture. Didn't want or need to bring all that oak stuff with us...we had 3 garage sales which our son did. Thank goodness, it was hard seeing all our treasures going to a new home. But it was time for someone else to love them. We moved to a 2 bedroom apt with our son. Hope he finds a job soon. We also have a JRT named Snickers. She's 14 & loves to rv also. We visited New Mexico & finally purchased a 33 ft GKE Excel. Can't wait to pick it up. We exchanged the recliners for some Euro chairs. We are small people. Also having some solar installed. When we go back in June they will put in the hitch. It is hard waiting..but it will be here soon. The end of April we go back to Ky for the Derby & WVA to visit family there also. Till next time...keep those tires rolling

My Daddy said:

"You can learn more by traveling than you can in school." It must be true if your Daddy said it. That's a statement he said while we lived in Waynesboro, Va & took a 2 week trip to Florida in February when my sister & I had to be taken out of school. I was looking forward to being out of school for 2 weeks but then found out I had to do homework..bah hum bug. I don't remember much from that trip besides being able to watch one of the Gemini space shuttles taking off..it was awesome. Then almost becoming an orphan when my parents were fishing on the other side of the lake & we were experiencing a storm. They finally toodled in to find everyone worried while they were catching lots of fish. I think that is the most scared I've ever been.
Another one of our Sunday drives. My Daddy loved to go on Sunday drives. He decided we needed to take a trip to Washington D.C. to see President Kennedy's grave. Out we went driving the few hours drive to DC. What a site it was, people lined up, took us 45 minutes to stand in line before we reached the grave. Daddy waited up on top of the hill while Mom, sister & me stood in line. This was back when it was surrounded by the picket fence & very simple. I liked it then. We went to see the changing of the guards, one of the most solemn ceremonies I've ever seen. Then it was time to come home, but of course Daddy didn't "ask directions" we ended up on the Maryland side & didn't get home till 4 am....until next time..keep those tires rolling!

Spring on its Way

We haven't had a chance to look for a spot for our 5th wheel this week. Howard had to have mouth surgery. His gums have been receding so they did some skin grafts on his upper gums. OUCH! He's doing lots better this time than the last. Hoping our son can get a job soon. Had some rain today with sleet. Sure did come down hard at times. We continue to get ready for full-timing. Going through more stuff. Seems like we have more stuff than we will need. Hope to post some pics soon of the 5th wheel. We took some while we were down there...not much else going on....until next time...keep those tires rolling!

Howard's story

Howard was born in WVA & lived on a farm till he was 18. Then he came to the big city of Louisville, Ky to pursue his education at UEI, Electronic school. He hadn't traveled much do to taking care of the farm. So when I met him I introduced him to camping. When we married we started out with a tent. My Dad had given us stuff to start out with. A few years later we upgraded to a 1963 Serro Scotty. We pulled that little thing everywhere. Camping in Indiana where we lived, towed it to Va. Beach, Florida just to name a few. A few years later with a son in tow, we went to a tent trailer. Our next step was a 18 ft Komfort TT. Then we were camping Havasu with friends. Our next step up was a 26 ft Sierra. We've enjoyed many trips in this Rv also. Now to the present..we just purchased our Full-timing unit. A 33 GKE Excel which we bought at RV Sales in Moriarty, NM. We will pick her up the end of June. In the meantime we will be looking for a place to park till we retire in the fall....until next time, keep those tires rolling!

A Beginning

I started traveling the moment I was born. My Dad was in the Air Force. My first home was a silver travel trailer. We didn't live on base. Can't remember how long we had it..My first memories must have been when I was about 3 or 4 yrs old. I remember it having a front living room, kitchen, my bedroom was bunkbeds. Mom wouldn't let me sleep on the top, you might fall off & break your head. My Dad retired from the Air Force b/c he had a heart attack. He went to work for his Uncle doing surveying. Our next trailer was pink. I now had a sister, so we shared a bedroom . We each had a twin bed with a closet in between. By this time we were living in Lexington, Ky. I am in first grade & am good with the hulu hoop. We moved a lot around Ky, one year I went to 4 different schools. I even had the pleasure of going to a 1 room schoolhouse. We didn't stay there very long, as our next place was Waynesboro,VA. I really liked living there. More on that later!
